The extra shows just a glimpse of the Arnside fireworks display yesterday evening.

In recent years it has become a large event drawing many hundreds of people from the surrounding areas. I would guess there were a couple of thousand on the promenade and it was good to see large numbers of families enjoying themselves.

The display is also timed to coincide with the arrival of a Pullman excursion train which is allowed to stop for half an hour on the viaduct. Its passengers can be served with dinner and watch the fireworks at the same time.

Each year the display, which is on the pier and the beach, seems to get bigger.
