On the Cooriedog walk we pass a field which encloses a small flock (5) of Herdwick sheep.  This morning one of them seemed hopelessly entangled in the fallen branch of a tree and struggling to free itself.  As I have taken an interest in their welfare, I moved to liberate her from her obvious predicament.  As I moved closer, she elegantly separated herself from the branch and ran off to join her flock mates.  Far from being entangled, it seemed she was using the branch for a very good scratch.  I don’t know why I have suddenly become so sheepish.
