Mud Glorious Mud

This was me walking the dog this morning ..... which obviously made me think of the Flanders and Swann song, which made me think about Hippopotamuses (Hippopotami?), which made me think that the word 'hippopotamus' really belongs in a limerick, so I thought I'd have a go at writing one.....

There once was a young hippopotamus
Who thought that the water was bottomless
His mother said it's no good,
If we swim down to the mud,
We'll find that it's all on the top of us.
