Sgwarnog: In the Field

Leaves

There were leaves on the line and on the pitch, but that didn't stop play.

Glasshoughton Welfare were hosting Harworth Colliery in this NCEL Division 1 fixture. I'd caught the train(s) to Castleford and walked the last mile to the ground which sits just behind Xscape and the Junction 32 outlet village.  A delay at Leeds meant that I thought I was running late but I arrived to find kick-off had been put back half an hour.

Welfare are in theory much the stronger of the two teams, but Harworth's Joshua Davies scored an opportunistic early goal from the halfway line, having spotted Glasshoughton's keeper out of his goal. Thereafter Harworth defended resolutely and Welfare grew more and more frustrated as the game went on. 0-1 it finished.
