Salmon Leap

Relieved of Flumlet-minding this week, we took our regular trip to see autumn colours in Perthshire, this time to the Hermitage. Overcast skies and rain dulled any colour, despite many larch and birch in their golden shades and a few beech holding on to their bronze.

The River Braan was running high and the falls most impressive. They are overlooked by the viewpoint Ossian's Hall. The extra photo 1 is from the nearby bridge where the river runs through a narrow, fast-flowing race.

Other visitors were few on such a wet day but one pointed out that the salmon were leaping up the section on the right,  we watched for some time and managed to snap several in varying stages of their leap, first (the top row) from the viewpoint, then (the bottom row) from above the fall  On one occasion two came at once. Whether any succeeded against such formidable currents it was impossible to tell.

We had lunch and a wander round Dunkeld, extra 2 is of the Tay from the Telford Bridge, to show that we did see some colour after all..
