My topsy-turvy life

Celebrate

With everything that happened immediately after he was born and all the stress and worry that came with it we had forgotten that a birth should be a celebration.

So we were really touched when we came in to this after a few hours sleep in Ronald McDonald House. His nurse overnight, Ellie, had made some signs to decorate his incubator.

Today was a series of tests and meetings with the surgeon, registrar, anaesthetist and others in preparation for the surgery to quite literally save his life. Signing the consent form is horrible even when there is no other choice.

Owen was taken down to theatre at 3pm and came back just after 6pm. They found the expected oesophageal atresia and tracheo-osophageal fistula and managed a full repair despite the oesophagus being very tight. He came back with so many tubes and drugs and sedatives and had all of his immediate family there to see him.

Now it's just recovery...
