Wang Pho Viaduct

Final day in our journey ‘up country’ in Thailand. We met up with our new friends at the Thailand-Burma Railway Railway Centre who have helped so much in pieces together Grandad’s journey from the archive of information. They’ve also been taking us to see the specific areas which we just could not have done by ourselves.

Once we left them we were able to travel on a section of the railway that still operates. Starting from Kanchanaburi station, crossing ‘the bridge’ over the River Kwai through the countryside and eventually over the Wang Pho viaduct (today’s picture). Once the train had gone over we were able to walk across it too. Mum and Jen stayed because they are sensible! Dad, Clare and I were not sensible so thought nothing of walking along a 1m wide metal plate in the middle of a mostly wooden railway on the side of a cliff face. We were ok until we had to navigate around a set of construction workers trolley on our little walkway, you can just see it in the photo in the distance. Only way around was to clamber around it. At this point I should explain... Dad is terrified of heights! We managed it but then disappeared off into the distance, leaving Clare and I our fate. Luckily we survived to tell the tale!

Yesterday backblipped now we are back in WiFi
