Ella's First Snow!

As predicted, we woke to light snow this morning. Ella didn't quite know what to make of it at first, but romped through (almost camouflaged) by the second attempt. Here, I called her name & she gave me a pretty point pose! It's not only our first snowfall of the season, but Ella's first ever. As a former southern gal, the cold weather is a bit of shock, but also a new adventure for her!

The snow was a nuisance school-wise, though. With no delay call, Hannah headed out to the bus stop at 6:45, only to text me over the next 45 mins. that the bus (having traveled only a fraction of the normal distance) slid a couple of times, other drivers were radioing that they couldn't make the hill approaching school, & finally that her driver pulled off the road after the back tires slid. She was scared of getting stuck in a ditch, & was cautious enough to play things safe. She called for a cinder truck, but in the meantime, Paul (who is on night shift this week) said he was going to get her off the bus & drive her to school--which he did. Just as he left, I got a call from the school. They were delaying the elementary (as if they had a choice with the early buses still not through that run). later, a second call came. Due to worsening road conditions, the district was not going to open for elementary students, but grades 7-12 would continue with normal schedules. Unbelievable. I guess the logic at that point was to wait for plows & salt trucks to clear the roads in time for the afternoon run. I grumble, but I admit that I wouldn't want to be the one making that call. The snow lasted through about 2:00, leaving us with a few inches of very wet, slipperiness. It was a safe commute home, after all the craziness & worry on my part.
