Main Street, Fishguard

Kendall's idea for a One Street photographic project has grown legs already.

Today on a bleak and windy day I took this shot down Main Street which despite its name is not really Fishguard's main street and it's not the one I will be concentrating on. But it does show the air of desolation that pervades my small town, once the holiday season is over. Main Street runs east in this direction from the central square to connect the upper part of the town with the old fishing port below, and continues as the only route up the coast towards Cardigan and Aberystwyth, further north. Around the corner the road drops sharply then climbs again beyond the little harbour that has featured in many of my blips.

There are some nice old Georgian town houses along this stretch but the shop and two restaurants you can see immediately to the left have all closed down in the past year. Opposite are another closed business  and two pubs (not visible) which remain open although several others in the town have shut.The only going concerns visible are a rather upmarket hotel on the left and a financial firm on the right - but that doesn't do much business since nobody has much money.

For the One Street project I'll be focusing on  busier West Street which has already been the location of a number of my earlier pictures but I plan to take a closer look at it.
