Building Elements #141…...Mortice Locks

The ancient doorknob/mortice lock contraption on the front door went into self-destruct mode yesterday, that bit at the bottom decided to snap thereby locking the door shut. Luckily the boy-in-the-attic came to the rescue in providing the necessary brute force to a) get the door open and b) dismantle and remove some of the bits and the offending sneck to at least make the door usable until I can get it replaced. Having just rung up the local ironmongers it now seems I have to do a template drawing of the lock and doorknob positions to make sure I get the right size of replacement......but then again, if it looks too complicated I might just bite the bullet and get a locksmith in ;-)
