A shaft of sunlight

Seeing the shaft of sunlight come through the statue and fall on the wreath in the National Memorial Arboretum is very moving - a beautiful tribute to those to whom we owe so much.

The single beam of sunlight is not always visible on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It depends on the weather. But, If it’s clear, the sun comes through and the fingernails of the outstretched hand are illuminated gloriously as the figure points to the Afterlife for the fallen. (Extra).

Tomorrow, the eleventh, will be crazy. They are exceptionally busy and approach roads will be closed from 6.00 a.m. To attend the service would be wonderful, but I’m being realistic.

Today, the tenth, dawned beautifully, so I headed to join the large numbers paying their respects. The light was perfect. But by 11.30 the rain was back.
