De Lemstersluis...

De Lemstersluis, built in 1888, is a lock. Before that time this was an open harbor to the Zuiderzee, which, after the construction of the Afsluitdijk in 1932, was called IJsselmeer. Lemmer was the most important port town after Harlingen. The sluice-gate houses and the two buildings on the harbor head were built in the neo-Renaissance style. In this port the cargo and service vessels were moored to and from Amsterdam. The fishing fleet also had an important place in this port.
