A mouse, a mouse ! Help !

One of our residents who lives on the second floor of the building , found a mouse in her living room .It was dealt with but panic set in among some of the more nervous ladies . There was talk of buying themselves devices which emit a sound which acts as a mouse deterrent ( inaudible to humans ) . What are they afraid of ?
I am happy with my little wooden mouse !
