Water Meadow

A much better day today if cooler than of late. I wanted to see for myself whether there had been serious flooding along the course of the River Yarr at Alverstone Nature Reserve near Sandown.

The river was still flowing strongly but fortunately the water meadows had done their work when the river overflowed holding back the water and protecting the areas downstream towards Bembridge.

Unlike many parts of the country no building has been allowed on the flood plain so properties were not at risk. Normally theses trees are in a field full of grazing cattle.
