Red square

What  a special day!

We are in Moscow and spent a few hours admiring the grandeur and history of Red Square, including St Basil's Cathedral (pictured)

St Basil's Cathedral (with the walls of The Kremlin behind) was built from 1555 - 1561 on the orders of Ivan the Terrible.  It is said that subsequently Ivan blinded the architect so that he could not build another competing cathedral.

The Cathedral consists of nine separate chapels, each capped with its own individually shaped and coloured dome.

Sunrise in Moscow is around 8am and sunset is 4.30pm, as it heads deeper into winter. However on these cloudy days it's feeling darkish by 3pm.
