There's Always Another Way...

This road near the Santa Rosa airport is typical of many country roads which literally skirt around fields and vineyards with many sharp turns narrow bridges and low hanging power lines.  This particular road  is a favorite short cut for truck drivers hauling loads of burned trees and other specialized types of fire debris to a dump site near the airport, ignoring the height and load limit signs. It seemed that there was always a truck which hit a telephone pole or a tree, missed the turn altogether and wound up in the vineyard, or got hung up on the barricade on the left hand side of the road. No matter how many warning signs were put up, including the overhanging yellow height limit poles, every truck driver felt that his truck would certainly fit...

I love people who think outside the box to solve a problem. Clearly, more signs were not the answer, but Patrick Amiot, a locally notorious 'junk' sculptor had another idea. He made these two vultures for the overhead stanchion. Since the street on which he lives features many of his front yard sculptures and everybody slows down to look at them, perhaps these eye catching birds would catch the eyes of the truck drivers and slow them down.

I don't know if it's working on the truck drivers, but it certainly brought me to a stop at the side of the road.

In other news...heartfelt thanks to all you kind and wonderful Blippers out there who offered stars, hearts and words of support after yesterday's panic attack. A good night's sleep has also done a lot to alleviate the symptoms. OilMan said that he was more panicked yesterday than he was when we evacuated in the middle of the night thirteen months ago. My comment was that we had no idea what was happening on that occasion. Yesterday, we knew exactly what could happen. Fortunately, it didn't, and once again we are indebted to the firefighters who worked at peak efficiency to put out a fire that could have been yet another disaster.

I'm putting a picture I took of the sun at about 4pm. in extras. Only smoke turns the sun itself that color.
