March of the Women

...Hinde Street Methodist Church, Marylebone

...A celebration of female composers who furthered the cause of freedom and equality in music

...'This year we celebrate the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918, which extended the voting franchise and gave women over the age of 30 the right to vote for the first time. Through words, music and images, this concert explores the lives and songs of leading female composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, who by their work and actions changed the musical landscape for those who followed in their footsteps. The programme includes songs by Ethel Smyth, Amy WoodfordeFinden, Liza Lehmann, Maude Valerie White, Elizabeth Poston, Elisabeth Lutyens and others.'
