Week Six ...

The strike continues.  We have now entered the sixth week of endlessly banging buckets, drums, whistles, and chanting which lasts for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.  It would appear that the original reasons for the walkout are becoming supplanted by an "us against them" mentality.  Various articles in the press, sympathetic to the workers have painted us (the residents) as entitled rich people who deserve to suffer this incessant din despite the fact that we have absolutely no say in how the Marriott Corporation chooses to negotiate their demands.  Sadly, the race card is now being played as well.  Boston's mayor has instructed the police to ignore the fact that the strikers are breaking the law by exceeding the noise ordinance levels, and other union shops will not cross the picket line, meaning that the city is not picking up our garbage, and UPS and DHL (among others) will not deliver packages.  I have a strong feeling that this sad state of affairs will continue for some time to come.
