Kendal yards

A feature of Kendal that I find quite attractive is that it has a series of 'yards' in the town centre.  I don't know how many, but there are certainly more than sixty of these.  Each one is accessed via a ginnel which opens up into a small courtyard containing one or more premises.  Whilst some are residential, others house small businesses, such as cafes, coffee shops, hairdressers, tailors.  Although they give the town a quirky edge, it can be quite confusing for anyone not acquainted with them, as they can make places difficult to find (as I have been finding out!)
