Russian Church

Geneva is known as the City of Calvin, and was a most important centre of the Protestant Reformation, with its austere, puritanical beliefs and bare unadorned churches.
Thus it speaks particularly well of the city fathers who, in the 1860's, allowed the sister in law of the Czar Alexander I to fund the construction of this ornate jewel, with its gold domes and decoration, the complete antithesis of their own style and values.
Thankfully the did, because it is so beautiful and unexpected.
Maybe when the sun returns, April or May?, I'll make a day-time blip for us all.
