Kirkcudbright Quay

Today's the day ………………… for a mariners' notice

Although it doesn't look like it today, Kirkcudbright Harbour is currently the 5th busiest fishing port in Scotland and the 9th busiest in the UK.

Around 24 fishing vessels use the port regularly - landing shellfish, principally scallops and 'queenies' - with much of the landed catch (between 7000 and 8000 tonnes) being processed locally.  The fishing vessels which can use the quay have drafts typically of 2.5 to 4.5 meters and take the ground for 2-3 hours either side of low water.

Care is needed when berthing as tidal streams can be very strong...………….
