I'm Back

This Gray Catbird arrived a few weeks ago. He will overwinter in and around our yard. Last year there were six Catbirds enjoying the BarkButter and playing in the Bog. I wonder if the others will show up. Gray Catbirds are subtly very handsome birds. They are a lovely gray all over, sport a black cap and 'chestnut' under the tail. Catbirds are experts at mimicking the call of a cat and are often very convincing. And they are true omnivores, eating mostly insects and berries but will dine on just about anything humans can think to put in their feeders including cheese and corn flakes! In our yard, of course, BarkButter is a big favorite with them!

My heart is breaking, once again, seeing the horror playing out in California. At this moment the fires have claimed 63 lives with 630 persons missing! So many humans have lost their homes and business. Entire towns have been totally destroyed! The situation for animals is beyond horrendous! I have been donating to animal rescue organizations, the most recent being 'Best Friends' out of Utah. They are always right there on the front lines during natural disasters, saving and providing comfort to both domestic pets and wild animals as well. Here is the link to Best Friends Emergency Fund. Please donate to Animal Rescue Groups as well as the American Red Cross and please consider giving to World Central Kitchen...click on their link and learn about this incredibly amazing organization whose mission is to provide meals for victims of natural disasters. They have provided over 50,000 meals for those impacted by the two most recent fires.

A Peaceful Weekend to all of you.
