Flower Friday. : : Hydrangeas Again

Invisible hills
Red sun rising above trees
Declare disaster

Changing hydrangeas
Blossoms of autumn colors
Beckoning winter

December roses
Harbingers of summertime
Still blooming en masse*

It's been a week and a day since the Camp fire began and I saw the brown cloud creeping across the blue sky. How unwise it is to take anything for granted....

OilMan and I, suffering from both cabin fever and a deep malaise born of our respective disabilities decided to go to Trail House for coffee this morning. With the kids out of school some parents (and grandparents) have been bringing their small children to Acre coffee with catastrophic results...especially for OilMan and his new hearing aids. Trail House caters to cyclists, many of whom either not arise early or are still busy blasting down the hills of Annadale State Park on their mountain bikes, to likely to happen today with air levels at Very Unhealthy levels. I was surprised to see a couple of guys in full lycra lounging on one of the couches. Habit dies hard and perhaps the full lycra allowed them to feel that they had made the effort even if common sense told them that getting on their bikes was a bad idea.

Home again, I donned my mask to go out and take a few pictures. We still have a rose bush in full bloom as well as the hydrangeas which I spent a few minutes clipping. I  replaced the still attractive but slightly tired dried ones in the house with the newly cut blooms. The odd light coming through the kitchen window gave them a sort of sepia/old fashioned look and I liked the glimpse of the porch through the kitchen door.

Our smoke alarms have yet to go into full ear splitting alarm mode as they do occasionally when the stove burns something, but there must be enough smoke in the house to cause them to chirp, the sound they usually make when the batteries need to be changed. I found OilMan on a ladder in the guest room at 2:30 this morning trying to get it to stop.

We've decided to go to the movies this afternoon. Our local cinema probably has better air than our house, which has been closed up for over a week....We're going to see Free Solo about a climber best known for free climbing El Capitan in Yosemite in just under four hours....
