How close...

... can I get? I gave that rental lens a little workup on macro photography by way of a study of how close I can get to a fairly simple subject.  The featured shot is the first of a series, getting ever closer (the whole series is here).  Turns out: pretty darn close, to the point where I spotted a tiny little inhabitant of the flower :)

On the other hand, this lens is not good for night and street photography: I took it out for the first Xmas tree lighting and festivities of the season and the shots are throw aways for the most part. So that's tempered my enthusiasm a bit. I'll sleep on it before putting the lens on my Xmas list ;)
