Table Mountain

Looking forward to sleeping in, we awoke at exactly 5am alarm time for the past three days. We insisted on dozing until today's alarm time almost two hours later but weren't really hungry for breakfast, normally waiting until after the game drives at 9.30.

Last night, we enjoyed a view from the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront up to Table Mountain as the sun was setting. The pink cloud was whisping in a fine layer over the top; what we now know is called the Table Cloth - very fitting! This morning, we were in luck with the cloud and the wind and headed up in pure blue sky on the rotating cable car - a very fine way to ascend.

The walk up looked splendid but we hadn't planned any hard work this trip and true to form on day four, I'm not feeling quite on form. I'm hoping it's just the malaria tablets and have now quit them on the basis we've left the risk zone and I'm fairly certain I haven't been bitten (the only beauty of swelling up like an egg!)

We had a wonderful walk around the top, chatting to a fabulous runner and hiker from New York, keen to converse. He had run multiple marathons and was happy to be free of a five-day bus tour he was on and a 17-hour flight to get here. We too were enjoying stretching our legs that had almost forgotten how to walk after all the sitting down we'd done in the jeeps.

Looking over the edge, we enjoyed watching the dassies scampering around and sunning themselves - one lady even spotted their communal latrine - how civilised!

Birdlife continues to impress with a red-winged starling and a pied crow.

We've used uber for the first time to get back to the hotel. What a fantastic service! Shame I'd need to upgrade my phone to use the app.

Rich managed to wangle a second breakfast for us as we were back before it finished so that was a real bonus.

It's now a well earned chill out by the pool for the afternoon and an evening on the V&A Waterfront. We're taking a break from tablecloths and being served, opting for a noodle bar for two nights running! It's food I fancy too and it's gone down well.
