SIGNS

By Mickky

Walk, don't ride your bicycle!

After visiting some sights, we also went to a bookshop in Kawaramachi, Kyoto. Depicted in the sign is Ryoma Sakamoto, a prominent figure in the movement to overthrow of Tokugawa shogunate; and the present-day Kewaramachi is the place where he was assassinated in 1867. He would never have imagined he would appear in a public sign like this in 150 year time.

The bookshop itself is also famous; it appeared in a literary work, "Lemon," and the cafe in the shop sold a lemon cake which looked delicious.
