Winter Reading

I've just started reading this book and at over 700 pages it is going to take me some time to finish it.

It is the edited diaries of Jean Lucey Pratt.  She started writing them in 1925 when she was 15 years old and kept writing them until just before her death in 1986.  She wrote the diaries in Woolworth's lined notebooks and there were 48 of them.

She also took part in the Mass Observation programme - the organisation founded in London during the late 1930's to gain the thoughts and daily activities of ordinary people.  People submitted their diaries to the project.  I think it still exists in some form.

I've just read a few pages but so far it seems really interesting.  Her mother died when she was 13 and her father has just proposed to a lady he has formed a friendship with.
