light

The days are getting shorter and gloomier as we slide towards the solstice, and it's important to keep up our spirits by getting outside as much as possible, spending time with like-minded people, and seeking out light, sparkliness and colour :-)

One of the special things to do which ticks all those boxes is to visit Tynron on the day of the annual gift and produce fair. D, Jess and I went for a walk over Tynron Doon and Auchengibbert Hill before arriving at the Village hall, which was warm and welcoming as always, decorated with greenery and fairy lights. Lovely to browse the stalls and chat with friends.

Sarah Keast's stall was a real beacon of light - here are a few of  the lampshades which she has made, screen printed with grasses and birds and inspired by her summer residency at WWT Caerlaverock. I always joke with Sarah that if I ever come into millions, I will buy all her work. I made a start today with a card and some little printed bags.

We were back home in time for an hour's gardening.
