Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

I found this fossil root Stigmaria in the dry bed of a Gill Beck channel a couple of years ago. The river had been diverted to a new channel following floods. The fossil dates from around three hundred million years ago, the Carboniferous period.

Outside it was another grey, damp November day. I took the kids into town to see Nativity Rocks! I can't say I enjoyed it myself, but they seemed to.
