The beach...

I used to go fishing here a long time ago, usually at night, in winter, in a gale and unsuccessfully, bar a handful of tiny inedible fish. Kayak fishing was unheard of (unless you lived in Hawaii perhaps...).

Fast-forward to today and a small plastic armada put forth from Sandgate beach in search of cod, with a reasonable expectation of success and in rather more comfortable conditions - warm winter sun and a calm sea. Fish were tugging on the line every few minutes, and I was lucky enough to snag the only cod, a fat 5lb fish, which is now in the fridge. Though that is a virtual baby compared to the 29lb cod caught from a kayak earlier in the week!
