Kilmartin

Too much talking to our genial Airbnb hosts meant we left late and didn’t have long doing the archaeology in the area. One set of ring and cup marked stones, one fort, one cairn and a few standing stones was all we were left with.
Reckoned to be the richest  region in Scotland for Bronze Age sites, it was impressive but to me the Neolithic carved stones in the image above were the most impressive.
Perhaps the coronation stone at Dunadd pushed it close with a carved footstep thought to have been used in the coronation process, a Pictish carving of a boar, a carved bowl and some Ogham script all on the one exposed rock.
Lidl in Oban was huge and provided some of the necessities in life before the five and a half hour crossing to Lochboisdale. An hour’s drive and eventually we were home. Phew!
