The circus.....

....has arrived in town which is always exciting and I was curious to find out a little more.

Now on its fifth New Zealand tour, the circus has arrived bringing the 'La Unica' show.

The one hour and 45 minute show is packed with acrobatics, contortionists and magicians.

The performers live on site in trailers, and train on stage for two hours each day. They also help to set up and pack up all circus equipment including the large tent. It can take three days for everything to be set up before the opening performance. When they're not performing they study through correspondence if they're still in school.

The tour lasts two years and travels to over 60 towns around New Zealand. After each tour the majority of the young performers, all from China and all graduates of Hebei Chinese Wuqiao Acrobatics Arts School, go back home to China. This means a new variety of performers with different skills makes each tour unique.

When viewing the timetable of the shows I noted the performers are only performing in the weekends, using weekdays to pack up and move on to their next destination.

So no animals but some very talented performers.....how the circus has changed since I was a child.

On another note it was lovely to see and feel the sun today :)
