Creation

In 2001 a very colourful Creation Window was installed in the refectory at Chester Cathedral.  It was designed by Rosalind Grimshaw combining ideas from the Creation story in Genesis incorporating modern illustrations. For example, “Let there be light” on Day One includes skyscraper windows and car tail-lights and on the second day Earth is seen from the Shuttle with its tail fin visible. The artist suffers from Parkinson’s Disease and modern health inventions are represented by a copy of a brain scan and an ultrasonic scan of a foetus.  Above all this is the Hand of God moving from the first day creating Heaven and Earth, water, plants, birds and animals to Mankind on the sixth day.
"It’s the same hand that is easy to miss in the Creation Window. It is often the case that we are too busy looking at the detail rather than the big picture. This is true of life that, sometimes, all we are able to see is the “chaos” but creation reminds us that God’s hand is able to use what appears to us to be impossibly dark situations and turn them into something of beauty."

There is so much to see and an excellent description of the window is found here.
