A Night on the Tiles

Raising the Roof and a Night on the Tiles

Hooray! The Roofers came today and started to put tiles on our new roof extension. It has been freezing living under the stars, but hopefully this will start to provide some new insulation. They have now finished the back end and hopefully will complete the front and side tomorrow. Problem with the ridge tiles however as we need the temperature to warm up above 4 deg for the cement to be laid down.

The never ending symmetry of life has also manifested itself. I am going 'oot on the Toon' for a night on the Tiles with a few friends - as is Lounardo to see some friends in a new rock band. We will all avoid the infamous 'Bigg Market though. This is life in the raw, just as portrayed in the new TV series Hebburn - surely the most accurate portrayal of life in Geordieland to date. We found it hilarious anyway !!

For any Anthropologists studying Geordie Night Outs:

from www.urbandictionary.com

phrase-synonym of 'night on the town':

A night out with friends in a town or city centre during which one usually indulges in drinking, dancing, and the inadvertent concoction of hilarious anecdotes.

The word 'tiles' probably refers to the tiles that make up dance floors.

As in 'The Enemy''s song, 'Be Somebody':
"The only thing that really makes us smile
Is a joke and a laugh and a night on the tiles"
Or:
Johnny:
"Alright mate, what you doin' tonight?"
Dave:
"Dunno, mate, just chillin', I think"
Johnny:
"Fancy a night on the tiles with me and the boys?"
