Custom House Greenock

This morning after taking my daughter to work and dropping my wife at the station, I decided to go over to Custom House Quay in Greenock to take some pictures.

It was such a great morning, really fresh and the moon was really bright in the sky. I liked this angle showing the Custom House with the light from the lampposts and a glint of frost on the cobbles.

The Custom House at Greenock was built by William Burn in 1818 and is a fine building complete with Doric columns and portico, built next to the river it is still an imposing building.

Next to the Custom House is Greenock Arts Guild's new theatre, the "Beacon" due to open at the end of 2012. The site of the former Lamont dry dock adjacent to the historic East India Harbour in Greenock, the new arts centre will house a five hundred seat auditorium, a one hundred seat studio theatre, rehearsal rooms and a café and bar. This newest addition to Inverclyde's waterfront will result in one of the best arts centres in the UK, offering a diverse range of performance as well as being a social hub at the heart of a community that is positively looking towards future growth and opportunity.
