To the Bloomsbury Theatre for an evening marking 40 years since the release of Vivian Stanshall’s ‘Sir Henry at Rawlinson End’.
Viv himself was obviously unavailable, but the great man was brilliantly & lovingly evoked by actor Michael Livesley (above) as Sir Henry (and indeed, all the other characters!), with the aid of, amongst others, Stanshall collaborators Rodney Slater (Bonzos), John Halsey (Rutles) & Suzie Honeyman (The Mekons).
Stanshall’s mental health issues were touched upon. Rodney Slater told us that Viv really just wanted to be ‘normal’, & Rupert Stanshall mentioned that ‘The Cracks are Showing’ was his Dad’s favourite song, but overall the tone of the event was celebratory.
And Livesley even smuggled in a blink & you’ll miss it tribute to Pete Shelley too.
