Salvage from the Wreckage

By NickMogToo

I remember that I parked next to a blue one...

After going to bed, dog-tired, at midnight, I woke up at 5:00. Frustrating!
Out for another early morning run. Again, interesting. And quite hot.
We had breakfast in the Executive Lounge - lots of bowing from the waitresses. We tend to have quite a bit of fruit - melons, grapes and Dragonfruit! But could have sausages and roast potatoes...
Necked out and taxi to the office for another day in Old Trafford.
Lunch was a spicy sort of spaghetti Bolognese.
We finished at 4:00 and headed off to the airport via a shopping mall in search of presents for A’s kids. We were after a particular brand of sweets, a teddy-bear with a Vietnam jumper and, to represent the city, a toy scooter. The mall turned out to be a Vietnamese version of Debenhams and had none of these things. So we headed to the airport on foot - testing our newly-found road-crossing skills to their limits.
After a brief panic when our flight (to Hanoi) was not listed, we realised that internal flights went from the next terminal along. After checking in, we were able to go back to the international terminal where we managed to find all of the items required by our quest.
A bizarre stop at a fast food place which was showing the start of a Vietnam international football match. Then on the two hour flight to Hanoi. accompanied by about 100 Vietnamese teenagers. School trip?
A small panic at Hanoi, when B realised that he had left his iPad on the plane. But the staff were very helpful and they retrieved it while we waited in an empty terminal. Having, correctly, worked out that we were incompetent, the airport lady insisted on escorting us to the inter-terminal bus.
In contrast to the teenagers on the connecting flight, we shared this one with a 100 British retirees. School trip?
There was a crying baby and there is nothing more annoying than the sound of intolerant people complaining about a baby who can’t help crying.
We started the flight at 1:00AM and we finished it, 13 hours later, at 7:00AM. So I really wanted to sleep as much as I could. But the seats in the premium economy class, whilst having a lot of legroom and a certain amount of reclinability, didn’t really help you to sleep. Managed “fitful”.
