Sugar Beet

It's been a bright, cold and for us a quiet Sunday, we went to church at Castle Camps this morning and on the way saw that a field of sugar beet was being harvested.

So just had to stop on the way home an get a photo or two... This ROPA Tiger 5 and Fendt 939 Vario were getting through the heavy work at a cracking pace.  The extra is the Fendt heaping up the crop at the edge of the field ready for transport to the factory.

The TV news just the other evening were highlighting that beet prices to the factory were falling, one of the guys told me that at the moment they're getting £20 and a few pence for a ton. in 2014 the price was £31.67.  The costs to the farmer of course haven't dropped, quite the reverse...
