Celebrations

AR’s 3rd birthday party today (actual birthday not til the 13th) - extras give a feel for the mayhem!
I went round early and helped make the children’s food whilst they sorted out the games and decorations etc...all the time having to (try and) keep 3 little whirlwinds of excitement out of the way. AR had been given a fairy princess unicorn outfit by Roman (uncharacteristically pink and sparkly!) and was wearing that, running around clutching one handful of cars and another of dinosaurs. Mx still not walking but getting steadier by the day.
The little guests were brilliant with the games - I don’t remember attempting ‘wrap the mummies in toilet rolls’, ‘pass the parcel’ or ‘decorate the biscuits’ with 3 year olds! But when we got to the treasure hunt bit, with Mt dressed up as the pirate leader, the memories of pirate and caveman parties (albeit for 5-7 year olds) came flooding back...Mt has definitely stepped into those shoes.
After the ghost cake was lit and cut (not sure why AR has such a fascination with ghosts!) the little ones left and, with a swift swap of food, we prepared for the family guests. Lots of chat and laughter and playing with AR and her new toys, puzzles and books. I managed to get a decision made for Christmas Day and started planning the food with T&Kt, then had rather a startling chat with N that left me a bit discombobulated before setting off on the long slog home. Listened to book group book for tomorrow night all the way home (I am, I am, I am by Maggie O’Farrell - very good) and made good time by not stopping at all.
What a nice weekend - managed to get more done than usual and lovely to be part of the celebrations
