New Monument at Higgins Neuk

This afternoon we took a walk at Higgins Neuk for the first time in quite a while. Approaching the Pow Burn, we spotted something strange, looking like a wiggly worm standing on its tail. It turned out to be a new monument to the medieval use of the area as Scotland 's Royal Dockyard. It is quite possible that the Great Michael, once Europe's largest ship, was docked and serviced here. There is quite a lot more to read on line if you are interested. I spotted a carved "W" on a stone block forming part of the old sea wall and often wondered just who W was and what was in his history that led him to be carving that stone.
