Slaters Bridge, Little Langdale

Another fine day’s walking in the Lakes. A route we’ve done several times in the past few years. An 11 mile perambulation from Elterwater, Little Langdale, Tilberthwaite, Tarn Howes, Skelwith and finally back to Elterwater.

The last steps of the walk take you alongside the River Rothey and Elterwater and must count as one of the finest stretches of low level walking with super views north to the Langdale, West towards the setting sun all the time accompanied by running water.

The walk also takes in another fabulous view that of Little Langdale tarn and Weatherlam which I’ve posted previously. The path runs down to Slaters Bridge which crosses the River Rothey and so provides the subject for today’s blip. One of many packhorse and pedestrian bridges Slaters Bridge links Little Langdale with the Tilberthwaite quarries.

Tarn Howes was spectacular as usual, we had a chilly lunch accompanied by a hungry goose as a constant companion. The going was surprisingly dry with little in the way of mud or bog.

Enjoyed a coffee in Elterwater before setting off and tea and scones in Grasmere where we headed for a short stroll and visit to the Heaton Gallery and the Bookshop before tackling the Struggle and Kirkstone back to Glenridding.
