I think he spent more time defending than eating.
We needed to stock up with meat etc. before everywhere gets really crowded, and as it was a nice bright day we went to the local farm shop.  After coffee and cake  we spent a few minutes in their hide but there wasn't much wildlife  and the temperature didn't seem to have got above freezing, so after a couple of common garden bird shots, we did our shopping and headed for home
