Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2018 Thursday — The Journey North

Ours plans were set weeks ago to drive north today for our winter on the coast. Then we learned three days ago (see Monday’s Blip) that there’s been a death in the family. We thought that our journey would be postponed until after the memorial service, but we learned yesterday that the immediate family (who are making all the arrangements) are now thinking of scheduling the “Celebration of Scott’s Life” until after Christmas, possibly the 27th of this month.

So we decided to just get real quiet, pack the things we need, and head north without telling anyone, and then we’ll return the day after Christmas so we can be at the gathering. If they decide to do it sooner, then we’ll head back in time to attend.

So we had one morning appointment to get a new windshield in my car and then a text arrived from granddaughter Ashly asking us if we have any photos of Uncle Scott. That started a serious search through our laptops, out to our backyard sheds to look for disks of saved photos, and we finally decided to take the box with dozens of disks north with us so we could get to traveling.

So we finally drove away from the house at 12:50, which is good because lunch time has concluded and hopefully the congested midday traffic in Los Angeles would have decreased AND it had. The heart of LA is approximately a 45 minute drive from our house. The traffic slowed once or twice, but overall the journey was smooth and uneventful. Four hours of driving time was confirmed once again.

So that’s our Thursday story. We’re delighted to be on the Central Coast and tomorrow, Friday the 14th, is Mr. Fun’s Birthday! Woohoo!
