Pieta

This version of the Pieta at the Manilva cemetery had a mystical, almost unearthly air about it. In fact the structure growing out of the virgin’s head is a mobile phone mast, and its aura is the contrail left by some flight jetting off to a holiday destination for Christmas.

My extra is of the rows of vertical tombs that step down the hillside in terraces below the cemetery chapel. These tombs are sold or rented. After twenty years the remains are removed to the ossuary and the tombs resold, or re-let for the next occupant. Nothing if not practical.
