Streets of Gold

This was walking back from church tonight, under the sort of moisture that makes your hair frizzy, but not too cold. Good service, but oh, so different from what we've got used to in Portugal, can't quite get my emotions/thoughts sorted out...

Had everyone back for Sunday dinner after church this morning, with crackers and singing "Happy Birthday" to my brother, as we won't see him tomorrow. Got him a cake, though, to share with the others who live in the sheltered accommodation with him.

Advent reading was Luke 3:10-18, where John the Baptist is preparing the way for Jesus...

“What should we do then?” the crowd asked.

What God does is the important thing; he gives his Son. But what should we do to prepare for this encounter? John's answer is so straightforward (though not always easy): share what we have, don't take advantage of people, and be content with your pay.
