Hellebore Buds

Busy day today getting the last of the Christmas shopping and a quick visit to my friend in Bonnyrigg. Spotted this Christmas rose in bud in her garden. I think it will be quite stunning when it's out in full bloom.
Legend links the Christmas rose with the birth of Christ and a little shepherdess named Madelon. As Madelon tended her sheep one cold and wintry night, wise men and shepherds passed by carrying their gifts - gold frankincense and myrrh for the wise men and fruits, honey and doves for the shepherds. Poor Madelon began to weep because she had nothing for the new born King. An angel, seeing her tears flew down and before her eyes brushed away the snow revealing a most beautiful white flower tipped with pink - the Christmas rose.
