Warmwell Bird Walk

We walked near the disused gravel pits near Dorchester again today ( we were last there in February ) . They are being turned into an ecologically friendly holiday resort by the same people who are responsible for the Cotswold Park . It was very atmospheric in a winters way .
A tree with carvings by GIs from the RAF Warmwell can still be seen enlarged by the tree’s growth ( see collage ) .A new memorial has been erected to the fighter pilots . https://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/features/lookingback/17234667.holiday-park-dedicates-memorial-to-airmen/
There are still the remains of ammunition stores in amongst the woods .
Lots of beautiful lichens and hazel catkins but fewer birds than last time though we did see a heron ,a huge flock of lapwings and fieldfares .
