At Martin Mere this morning, they were very lively,
The extra is a Wood Duck, which originates from North America, they became very rare  in the early twentieth century due to tree felling, they nested in hollow trees. Their recovery was helped when it was found that they would nest in boxes. Shooting of them was banned. There was a big campaign and the public took these birds to their hearts. They are now thriving.
