Memorial

I'm way behind on my blip uploads, and it's now 20th December.....but I have a few quiet days before Christmas to catch up, so here goes.

It's our first full day in Berlin, and the weather was pretty grey and damp.

We had a little wander to the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag building before having brunch at a great little cafe near our hotel called the Flamingo Fresh Food Bar.

We then headed to the Pergamon Museum. We knew it wasn't not possible to visit this museum, as it's undergoing a major refurbishment, but there's a temporary alternative - Pergamonmuseum - The Panorama.

It's a full size 360 image of what life would have been like in Pergamon around the altar, created by artist Yadegar Asisi. It was amazing! (see first extra).

We also visited the Alexanderplatz Christmas market but felt it was a little too early in the day for Glughwein!! We opted for coffee and a huge slab of chocolate cake in a cafe instead.

One of the more quirkier sights in Berlin is AMPELMANN! How can pedestrian lights become an icon but they have here. You can even buy souvenirs from their shops (see second extra).

We later walked through the controversial Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. It was quite an unsettling experience. (see main photo)

We went for a curry this evening, but didn't make it to another Christmas market as it poured down this evening.
