I attempted a translation of an English quotation today and was defeated by the persistence of prepositions.

I wanted to translate Robert Frost's "A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman's birthday but never her age". And I came up with "Ein Diplomat ist ein Mann, der sich immer an den Geburtstag einer Frau erinnert, aber nie ihr Alter"  which isn't bad, but in order to be grammatically correct it should be "Ein....., aber nie an ihr Alter".  But because that has to do with what verbs take which prepositions, we can leave it until next term.

That is a suitably frivolous note to end the week on.
